The eagle has keen vision and appetite. It will travel a
great distance to secure food.
Like eagles, faithful Christians have the ability to see or discern spiritual
food afar off and travel great distances to secure it. Christians gather together to study
the truth, as eagles are drawn to their food. Not one saint in all the world shall fail to
come into contact with present truth.
Eagle Facts
An eagle soars on widespread wings watching for its prey from 1,000 feet in the
air. From there, pressing its wings against its sides, it power dives upon its victim.
Eagles can fly as fast as 80 mph!
The eagles sharp eyesight is due to the reflection of an object on cone-shaped
cells. The tiny spot in back of the eyeball absorbs light rays from the object through
thousands of sharp focusing cones. Most animals, including humans, have a single spot of
cones. As the eagle zooms down in a long slanting dive, the target is held in constant
clear focus. Eagles also have better depth perception than other birds, with their left
and right fields of vision overlapping through an arc of about thirty-five to fifty
degrees in front of the face.
In the Chilkat Valley of Alaska, over 3,000 Bald Eagles congregate each fall to
feed on the spawning chum salmon. Some traditional wintertime roosts accommodate up to 400
eagles per night. Eagles will fly long distances just to join the group. These gatherings
appear to facilitate "information sharing."
An adult eagle measures about 3' in length with a total wingspan up to 7.5'. The
eagles nest or aerie may be in a high tree or on the crag of a cliff. The nest may grow to
as much as 6.5' high and weigh as much as a ton! One nest measured over 8' across and 12'
high and weighted about two tons! Some eagles in captivity have been known to reach an age
of 50 years. The name Aquila [Acts 18:2] is Latin for eagle.
How appropriate is Jesus use of eagles to picture his followers!
